Pokémon Card Centering Calculator

Find out if your card is centered well enough for a PSA 10. Add a photo of the front or back, line up the guides with the card edges and the inner border, and see the exact centering and the best grade it allows at PSA, BGS and CGC. Free, and your photo never leaves your device.

A sharp photo from straight above works best. Your photo stays on your device.

How to measure the centering of a card

  1. Take a straight photo. Take the card out of its sleeve, lay it flat and shoot from directly above, so the borders are not distorted.
  2. Line up the blue lines with the four outer edges of the card.
  3. Line up the green lines with the inner border, where the yellow or silver border meets the artwork frame.
  4. Read the result. The calculator compares opposite borders. 55/45 means one border takes up 55% of the space and the other 45%.
  5. Check the back too. Graders judge the front and back separately, and the back may be more off center.

Centering standards by grading company

These are the published centering limits for the front and the back. A card has to meet them to get the grade, but centering is only one part of it: corners, edges and surface count too.

CGC uses the same limits as PSA for a Gem Mint 10: 55/45 on the front and 75/25 on the back. A CGC Pristine 10 needs centering of about 50/50.

Frequently asked questions

What centering do I need for a PSA 10?

About 55/45 or better on the front and 75/25 or better on the back, both left to right and top to bottom. PSA allows a little leeway for eye appeal, but cards outside these limits rarely get a 10.

Is 60/40 centering good?

60/40 on the front is the limit for a PSA 9. The card can still look good, but it usually rules out a PSA 10 or a BGS 9.5. On the back, 60/40 is fine for every grade.

Does the centering on the back matter?

Yes, but less than the front. PSA allows 75/25 on the back for a 10 and 90/10 for a 9, so only a clearly off center back lowers the grade.

How accurate is this centering calculator?

As accurate as your photo and your lines. Use a sharp photo taken straight from above and fine tune each line with the magnifier and the arrow buttons. Graders measure the real card, so treat the result as a close estimate.
